Principles of Baroque Violin Playing

Online Violin Workshop for Intermediate level students with renowned Italian Violinist & Teacher Maestra Rebecca Raimondi.

Online Platform: The online workshop will be conducted on Zoom.

Workshop Topic: Principles of Baroque Violin Playing

  • Baroque Period in European music: view over the context and history.
  • In practice: what a violinist has to know in order to perform a Baroque piece in the most authentic way.
  • Bow techniques, dances, vibrato, articulation, harmony, and expression.

Rebecca Raimondi, born in Rome, Italy. In 2018 she has been Fellow at the “Guildhall School of Music and Drama” in London with Jacqueline Ross, where she also obtained a Master (CRD) with David Takeno and Pavlo Beznosiuk. She also studied with Salvatore Accardo (Accademia “W. Stauffer” in Cremona and “Accademia Chigiana” in Siena), Marco Fiorini (Scuola di Musica di Fiesole), Lorenzo Fabiani (Accademia musicale Sheherazade) e Roberto Gonzalez- Monjas (Accademia Praeneste).
In 2014, under the guidance of Antonio De Secondi, she graduated at the Conservatory “O. Respighi” in Latina, with the highest degree cum laude and honors.

As a soloist, she performed Mozart D Major concerto KV 218, Brahms Violin Concerto, and Bach Concerto for two violins in D minor with Gaia Trionfera and “I Solisti Aquilani”. On period instrument, she performed in London, Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 at the Milton Court Concert Hall, “the Four Seasons” by Vivaldi with the “Rest Ensemble” in London and Rome, and the “Grosso Mogul” RV208 at the HfMDK and the Kundenzentrum of Frankfurt am Main for a concert series organised by the “Frankfurter Sparkasse”.

Keen also on Contemporary music, she has been invited by “Mantova Chamber Music Festival” and the Filarmonica Romana, where in 2017 and 2019 she held recitals for solo violin. Composers such as Marco Quagliarini, Paolo Marchettini, Massimo Munari, Daniele Carnini and David Collins dedicated their compositions to her.

In the numerous orchestral experiences, she performed with the “Freiburger Barockorchester”, “La Stagione Frankfurt”, “Dresden Festival Orchestra”, “Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment”, “Leonore Orchestra”, “Orchestra da Camera Italiana”, and collaborated with the “Academy of Ancient Music”, “London Symphony Orchestra”, and conductors such as Sir. Simon Rattle, Andreas Staier, Ivor Bolton, Alexander Lonquich and Mikhail Jurowski. She has been selected for the Lucerne Festival Academy 2018. She has been leader of “Archi Accademia Nova” in Rome, of the “Guildhall Symphony Orchestra”, “Guildhall Baroque consort”, leader of the second violins with the ”Academy of Ancient Music”, and leader in numerous projects at the HfMdK.

She is member of the Baroque group “Il Quadro Animato” (www.ilquadroanimato.com) which performed in festivals such as “Villa Musica” in Trier, “Sonntags Musik” in Magdeburg, “Viel Klang” in Tuebingen. She is also member of the “Capella Sollertia” which regularly performs at the St. Stephan Church in Munich, under the direction of Johanna Soller.

She funded the Ardorè Duo – violin and piano/baroque violin and harpsichord – (www.ardoreduo.org), performing at the ”Accademia Chigiana”, the “Museo del violino” in Cremona – playing on a Nicolò Amati ex-Collin 1669, “Macro” museum in Rome for “Nuova Consonanza” Festival – winning the “Scotese” prize as best young ensemble, the ”Istituto Italiano di Cultura” in Madrid, the Conservatory of Latina, and others.

She is member of the ”Avant Piano Trio” (www.avantpianotrio.com), which has been selected in 2018 for the “Trondheim International Chamber Music Academy”, and which is specialized in Romantic and Contemporary Repertoire.

In 2017 Rebecca Recorded a CD with Sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms for “Cremona Records”, for “Sheva Contemporary”, a CD with pieces for violin solo and piano duo by the composer David Collins, and two CDs with the music by Robin Holloway as Avant Piano Trio. With the Rest Ensemble she recorded a CD with the music by Riccardo Malipiero for “Brilliant” Label, and, as Ardorè Duo, one with the music by Marco Quagliarini for “Stradivarius”. She received positive reviews by Gramophone, The Music Web, BBC music magazine, Financial Times, Art Music Desk, The Art Music Lounge, Volksfreund (RP online), and others.

In 2019, as a member of the Avant Piano Trio she has been invited to take part in the “Autumn International Music Fest Hyderabad”, with a tour in India (Hyderabad, Bangalore, Calcutta), holding masterclasses, concerts and performing with Indian musicians, with which she created a strong bond.

She won many national and international prizes. In 2013 she received the prize “Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena”, for the best student of the Accademia Chigiana; she received the prize “Excellentissimus” by the Company “Le Cattedrali Letterarie” and signed by the President of the Italian Republic; she won the scholarship released by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In 2016 she got the scholarship “Barbara Stringer” released by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2016 she has been selected for the “Rome Chamber Music Festival”, and in 2018 she was invited at the “East Neuk” Festival retreat, in Scotland.

She plays a Riccardo Antoniazzi 1907 e and a Baroque violin of the Klotz school from the second half of the 1700.
